THE STORY

Making its debut in late 1969, the newly redesigned Plymouth ‘Cuda quickly became a big sensation. One reason was all the new options that had also arrived with this new E-body design, and this gorgeous car, coded Y07 for Canadian export, came with a bunch of them. A primary feature for many horsepower-focused fans was the availability of the 390 HP 6-BBL engine that had shown up in a short run of special Road Runners months earlier, and this car came with that engine. Also offered were new premium-cost paint colors, and again came from the factory in crazy FC7 High Impact In-Violet Metallic. Add in the fresh wheel design, Detroit’s wildest functional hood scoop yet and the just-introduced Pistol Grip shifter all as part of it, and this car gave real meaning to the slogan “Rapid Transit.”

That shifter attains to the fact that this is a factory E87 (V-Code) D21 (4-speed) Cuda coupe from day one, being one of 902 that were produced for the 1970 model year. The 440 6-BBL V-8 engine features three Holley 2-barrel carburetors, heavyduty cooling equipment and dual exhaust beneath its N96-coded factory Shaker hood with hold-down pins. Ordered with the A33 Track Pak, the A833 4-speed manual transmission is coupled to a Dana 60 differential with 3.54 gears and SureGrip, as well as the Hemi suspension handling package and factory power brakes.

The exterior is stellar, featuring the Cuda styling cues like road lamps, rocker moldings and thin chrome trim lines. The Argent-color scoop bubble compliments the car’s black vinyl top, hockey stick graphics and matching bucket seat interior. This includes the booted Hurst shifter, three-spoke sport steering wheel, driver’s remote mirror and Chrysler Solid State R11 radio. Outside, the features are optional dual chrome mirrors, valance-exit chrome exhaust tips, 440-6BBL Shaker tags and 440 stripe graphics. The final touch would be the 15-inch Rallye wheels wearing Goodyear Polyglas GT raised white-letter tires. The V-code Cuda was offered just two seasons before production ended. Here is one with the right stuff both inside and out.
