THE STORY

Every car has a story to tell. This is a real 1970 Hemi Cuda produced during the early part of the model run; its scheduled production date was Monday October 6, 1969. It was the first year for this exciting new pony car as well, but perhaps this car’s true standout factor is that it is one of only 44 produced for export to Canada. Sold new at Johnson Motor Company in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Y07-coded car represents a watershed moment in the evolution of the performance car production era.

Lasting a mere two model seasons, the model name itself denoted what was underneath its N96 Shaker design hood: the 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine. Right from the factory, this package was reserved for the most serious buyers. Two inline 4-barrel carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold, a forged crankshaft, high-flowing cylinder heads feeding into a dual exhaust system, and the instantly identifiable valve covers are all here. In this instance, the car—documented with a Chrysler Registry report, a Dave Wise report, an original broadcast sheet and an original California title—features the A34 Super Track Pak-associated A833 4-speed manual transmission, 9.75-inch Dana 60 Sure Grip differential, 4.10:1 gears, power front disc brakes and heavy-duty suspension and cooling components.

For many buyers, sedate and Hemi did not go together. Such was the case here, with FC7 High Impact In-Violet exterior paint covering the body and accented with a black Hemi hockey stripe and Cuda trim including lower rocker moldings, J45 hood pins, road lamps and valance-exit chrome exhaust tips. Inside is a black bucket seat interior with the Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, round-face gauges and R11 radio. The car features a set of 15-inch Rallye wheels and raised white-letter Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. This Hemi Cuda’s unique north-of-the-border origin, excellent provenance and A34-code 4-speed driveline coupled to correct FC7 extra-cost paint make it a standout among even the cars that still exist. Plymouth called it the Rapid Transit System, and this Cuda is an opportunity to join it.
